9/10 week photoshoots :)

Sleeping through the night: A baby's point of view

Found this online and thought it was just too funny! :)

"OK, here's my situation. My Mommy has had me for almost 7 months. The first few months were great--I cried, she picked me up and fed me, anytime, day or night. Then something happened.

Over the last few weeks, she has been trying to STTN (sleep thru the night).

At first, I thought it was just a phase, but it is only getting worse. I've talked to other babies, and it seems like it's pretty common after Mommies have had us for around 6 months.

Here's the thing: these Mommies don't really need to sleep. It's just a habit. Many of them have had some 30 years to sleep--they just don't need it anymore. So I am implementing a plan. I call it the Crybaby Shuffle.

It goes like this:
Night 1--cry every 3 hours until you get fed. I know, it's hard. It's hard to see your Mommy upset over your crying. Just keep reminding yourself, it's for her own good.

Night 2--cry every 2 hours until you get fed.

Night 3--every hour.

Most Mommies will start to respond more quickly after about 3 nights.
Some Mommies are more alert, and may resist the change longer. These Mommies may stand in your doorway for hours, shhhh-ing. Don't give in. I cannot stress this enough: CONSISTENCY IS KEY!!

If you let her STTN (sleep through the night), just once, she will expect it every night. I KNOW IT'S HARD! But she really does not need the sleep, she is just resisting the change.

If you have an especially alert Mommy, you can stop crying for about 10 minutes, just long enough for her to go back to bed and start to fall asleep. Then cry again. It WILL eventually work. My Mommy once stayed awake for 10 hours straight, so I know she can do it. Last night, I cried every hour. You just have to decide to stick to it and just go for it.

BE CONSISTENT! I cried for any reason I could come up with.
My sleep sack tickled my foot.
I felt a wrinkle under the sheet.
My mobile made a shadow on the wall.
I burped, and it tasted like pears (I hadn't eaten pears since lunch - what's up with that?)
The dog said 'woof' (I should know. My Mommy reminds me of this about 20 times a day. LOL.)
Once I cried just because I liked how it sounded when it echoed on the monitor in the other room.
Too hot, too cold, just right--doesn't matter! Keep crying!!
It took awhile, but it worked. She fed me at 4am. Tomorrow night, my goal is 3:30am.
You need to slowly shorten the interval between feedings in order to reset your Mommies' internal clocks.

P.S. Don't let those rubber things fool you, no matter how long you suck on them, NO milk will come out! Trust me."

Kylie’s 2 month stats :)

Kylie is now almost 12 lbs! Well, she should be at 12 by now since her appt. was last Friday . She's 23 3/4 inches long too.. crazy how fast she's growing!! She took her shots like a champ.. seriously, she cries louder and harder and longer every night for us. We opted for a delayed vaccination schedule so she only got 2 shots at her 2 month visit and will get one at her 3 month visit.

Things are going really great She doesn't cry nearly as much anymore and is sleeping pretty well at night, even though it takes me hours to get her down! :) She finally enjoys the baby bjorn so I can carry her around w/out my arms getting tired! She is so alert and she smiles all the time and even giggles now. It's adorable! And I think my favorite part of the day is when she wakes up and sees me and breaks out into a huge grin! Melts my heart

No two nights are the same!

Right when you think things are settling down (consistent 5-6 hours of sleep a night), it changes.. to Kylie waking up every 2 hours and staying up for at least an hour + each time! And then we get a wonderful night of 7 hours of straight sleep followed by her putting herself to sleep for another 2.5 hours! Of course when this does happen, I'm too busy waiting for her to wake up and wake up "hearing" phantom cries that I don't really get to enjoy that sleep. Nothing is predictable in parenthood! ;) That we sure are learning quickly :)

As the weather has finally been nice, Kylie and I have been going on stroller walks. Hopefully she'll get used to her car seat soon! All she does now is sleep during the walks and I can't wait until the day she starts being awake (and happy) during them and looks around at the world!

Kylie recently has begun to enjoy a little playtime by herself (she sure lets us know!) and enjoys playing on her activity mat and watching and batting at the animals :) It's so very cute to see her smile and make noises at them! The best, however, is when she's playing and I come join her.. the huge grin that breaks out when she sees my face is the most precious thing ever!

Happy Easter!

We had a wonderful Easter at Grandma D's (Great-grandma to Kylie!) and Kylie got to "meet" most of the family :) She had a gorgeous dress that Grandma got her and she behaved very well :)

Kylie is 10 lbs 6 ounces already! And she’s officially out of her newborn clothes since she’s too long for them. I can’t believe how fast she’s growing /
And she’s sleeping 6 hours straight at night now.. it’s so wonderful!! Being less fussy during the day too; although the poor dear has a cold right now so she is quite fussy and has a hard time with naps.. but she’s napping right now! Yay

Last night was also the first time she sat through bath time without crying! Our little one is growing up so quickly! ;)

One month old already!

Life with Kylie has been wonderful, and quite a huge adjustment! But things are finally settling down, we're getting to know each other, and getting into a routine. After reading a zillion parenting books this first month, we've found that The Baby Whisperer and The Happiest Baby On the Block are two parenting "techniques" that work best for us. Kylie is now on the E.A.S.Y routine of Eat, Activity, Sleep, You (mom and dad time!). It doesn't always go as planned, but it's getting better and Kylie seems happier with it. Kylie loves to dance around the house with Daddy, and she loves to sing and dance with Mommy (particularly to Baby Einstein's Nursery Rhymes CD!). Her favorite activity is still, by far, eating! Naps are getting to be in more of a pattern.. usually 45 minutes long with a 2-3 hour nap that starts about 3 hours after she wakes up for the day. And night time is much easier now that she goes down around 1am and sleeps about 5 hours. Wakes to eat for an hour, then sleeps another 3! Things are getting easier and we're falling in love with her more and more every day!
