Annual visit with Santa

Yesterday we had our annual visit with Santa with our friends. What fun! Kylie was a little shy, but she did tell Santa that she wanted a puppet theater :) Allie was scared but Santa was pretty awesome and took his time talking to her and warmed her up to at least standing near him for the picture.

On our way home, Kylie told me that Santa wouldn't be able to bring her a puppet theater because it was too big for his bag and too heavy for him. She was disappointed. I reassured her that Santa had plenty of room in his bag for everything and nothing was too heavy for him because he was like magic.

A perfect sunny day with no plans.... can't let that happen ;) Beach day!

May

I have not been good about updating pictures! Sorry!
We have had so much going on.... between school for Kylie (last day is this Thursday), doctor appointments for Allie (she's on her 7th ear infection and if it's not gone by next week, we have to get tubes :( poor baby), playgroups, meeting friends at the park, French class, Gymboree classes for Allie...it's been busy around here! Not to mention finally having good weather, we spend as much time outdoors as we can!

Latest updates:

Alexandra: At her 18 month (at 19 months) visit, Allie was 34 1/4 inches long (97th+ %) and 28.11 lbs (90th %). She is now starting to talk so much! She repeats just about everything, and is getting to that stage where she knows what she wants, and she wants it NOW! Haha. "Terrible Twos" here we come! It is so much fun to see her and Kylie interact and play together, talk together... Allie wants to do everything that Kylie does, and she does it all :)

Kylie: Kylie is so much easier to reason with and talk to now. It's so much fun having real conversations with her!! She is still as energetic as ever, but I'm noticing that she's becoming more aware of others and their feelings. If I'm upset about something, she'll ask me what's wrong, or "why are you mad Mommy?". It's nice being able to tell her why she can't do something and have her understand and respond in a positive way. She is also doing so much imaginary play right now! She plays independently so well and I love listening in on her "chasing a bear" or playing pirates. Such a fun age!

Kylie is also about to get glasses. In the past month, I had noticed that her right eye didn't always follow her left eye. Being that this is her vision, I wanted to take her in to see an ophthalmologist as soon as possible! We took her in last week and with initial basic tests, they immediately noticed that there was something going on with her right eye. After dilating her eyes and running more tests, 2.5 hours later (!!) they told me that she has a Wandering Eye (right eye) and would need glasses for a certain amount of time to correct it.

THIS site does a great job of explaining what is going on.. basically, the brain notices that the eye isn't functioning as well as the other, and slowly stops using that eye as much and instead relies on the other eye. Over time, the brain will completely shut off that eye, making that eye weaker and vision less ...20/20 until it completely stops using that eye at all. Thankfully we caught this early with Kylie so it sounds like it's still pretty minor. Either way, at this age, it should be easy to correct. The doctor mentioned our options were: glasses, surgery, eye therapy (like physical therapy for the eyes), or patching (can you imagine having to patch a 3 year old's eye?! not happening). Praying that the glasses work well and work quickly to correct this!

Anyway, Kylie picked out an adorable pink plastic frame. We're really hoping that she wears them and doesn't mind.... she really looks up to her 2nd-cousin, Sophie, who just happens to wear cute glasses as well. So I'm hoping that helps our case! Hope to be spending a lot of time with them this summer!

On to some pictures of the last month and 1/2....
